Camping is a good way to get the family out of the city and the city out of the family. Why is this important? Think about what the city offers your children: crime, drugs, rat race, greed, pollution, not to mention the exposure to all kinds of undesirable people and lifestyles that could sway your loved ones into the wrong direction. But there is hope. The weekend family camping trip can do wonders to teach the children about the beautiful things of the world.
Though we went a handful of times, my family was never real big on camping trips. But the times we did go still stick in my mind as good times. There is nothing like being in the wilderness, roughing it (cooking on wood stoves or propane stoves, fending off the cold, etc.), and using nature's outdoor potty. Somehow, this gives you a sense of getting back to your roots.
Being in a new environment can do wonders for the soul. You tend to feel closer to God, closer to your family and closer to nature; and you develop a respect for all of them.
It's not just the outdoors that brings this refreshing atmosphere, it's the family interaction. The family must work together to make things happen, and it's a lot more fun than doing chores at home. Kids who don't want to take out the garbage at home suddenly find joy in burning or burying it in a campground. Children who don't want to pick up their toys at home find a new eagerness in collecting firewood.
A family that is at each others throats at home, now becomes a team to get the job done in the woods. It is a good time for all and work doesn't seem like work. It is now about survival and sharing the event These are good things for a family to focus on and camping in the outdoors is a good place make it happen.
Additionally, their is play and relaxation. Once camp is set up, there is exploration, hiking, hunting and fishing to do. There are games to be played; volley ball, bad minton, races and many other games that can be included in the agenda.
And that's important. Have an agenda. Don't just go camping and expect things to happen by themselves. Make plans for how the family will be able to most enjoy their camping trip through participation and interaction with each other.
Do some bird watching, some wild life tracking, and learn about the other animals and plants in the area. Practice survival skills, bird calls, hiking and tracking skills, knot tying and emergency drills. It's fun and valuable information to know.
Have you taken your family into the great outdoors lately? When is your next family camping trip? I suggest you make yourself at home in the great outdoors and see how much closer your family becomes. Once everyone gets away from the negative influences of society, and learns to work together as a unit, you will reap many rewards, indoors and outdoors.
Camping with the family is a good habit and I think you will see some amazing things going on with your family; things as beautiful as nature itself.
