We take great pleasure in reflecting on good times from time to time. I felt that I must share this one with you. I hope it will trigger many happy memories of fishing trips you’ve enjoyed. Or, at least assure you that anything is possible while fishing.

A few years ago our bass fishing club made a trip to Falcon Lake in south Texas for a weekend bass fishing tournament. Some of us arrived early in the week to pre-fish, play cards and enjoy ourselves; which we did. However, we had no idea what was waiting ahead for one of our bass club members.

After supper, some of us went for a walk before playing cards. Carl stated, “I have not found any good fish. Does anyone have any suggestions?”

I told him to follow my bass boat in the morning, but not tell anyone else what he was doing.

The next morning, we struck out for the cove I had found during pre-fishing. When we got there I told him where I was going to fish, and that he should fish from the main point to a certain bend in the shoreline using a red Rattletrap. I went down the shoreline about fifty plus yards and started fishing. The fish were there and we all started catching good keeper bass.

Check This Out!

I began watching Carl. It became very evident that he was on more fish then I was. After catching his sixth good bass, he began to jump around in the back of the boat, laughing and having a ball. By now, you may know were I am going…

That day he caught and released a total of thirty-eight (38) keeper bass!

The next day we went to the same area and the bass were still there. He lost a couple large bass, but he didn’t mind it at all. The only thing that he did mind was that…

I WON THE TOURNAMENT!

Since we could only count our best five (5) bass each day, he came in second. My total fish weight was greater then his for the bass tournament.

But, I can still picture him in his boat yelling for joy, “What a day!”
